My Story

The best things in life are made by hand.

One of the greatest privileges in my life is getting to spend it with my wife Robyn. She is my better half in every sense of the word and makes me a better person with every day that passes.

Tradition. Convention. Stewardship. I have a great reverence for these three things, the meanings of which embody my life and career. They are the things that ground me. They are the things I can look back to when I feel lost or like I’ve wandered too far from my purpose. They are the WHY behind what I do and how I choose to do it.

Braiding and teaching are two of the most important outlets for me to apply these concepts in the world as an artist.

My braiding career began at age 6. One day my dad was at the barn working a young horse and I asked him when he was going to teach me how to braid, he told me to find some bailing twine and then proceeded to show me the process of braiding three strands. I was instantly hooked, and so began my lifelong love of braiding and creating.

As I got older and became a full time braider people would reach out and ask questions about how they could also get started braiding. Information available at that time was extremely limited so I began filming video courses from what we call “the braiders eye view” - a perspective that would have helped me when first starting out. Education and preservation of Western Crafts has become a passion of mine through the creating of these resources. I love teaching and seeing people reach their goals while finding their own love of braiding.

Tradition

an artistic or literary method or style established by an artist, writer, or movement, and subsequently followed by others.

Convention

a way in which something is usually done, especially within a particular area or activity.

Stewardship

The term stewardship, in the religious sense, means to look after the world for God. God has created a world in which humans have a special role as stewards of creation. This means they should look after the interests of the planet and all life on it.
